Sat. March 15th, 2008 -El Salvador Impresionante-
EL SALVADOR IMPRESIONANTE!" or El Salvador Impressive. We stayed at  Los Cobanos Village Lodge for this tremendous outing as we set out to record a TV Show "INSIGHT" airing in April on Local Channel 33 and in several Tour Expos in the United States in mid-year.
By 7:15am, we were already headed to near the border of Guatemala to about 15 miles. We had several mini-interviews with the crew as we talked a bit about the marine life, our equipment, provided contact info and much more.
At about 10am we struck gold! we spotted bird activity and Dorados jumping in massive numbers at escatly 23.12 miles from shore. A large piece of plastic and foam tied with a roap was the base to an entire ecosystem and Mahi Mahi's were voraciously praying on smaller fish.
Captain Moran was fishing with light tackle from the bal and hooking small tunas on a 10 pd line and attaching the live fish to the heavier lines as bait. We caught 36 Dorados on avg. 25 pds using this great technique as we had Captain Moran feeding the Trolley Rods all day long and our engines OFF!
We headed back home at around 4:30 pm and on the way back we had the opportunity to raise 2 sailfish but none landed.
Once again...EL SALVADOR IMPRESSIVE!

Fishing Report - February 2008

It's been another terrific month of fishing at Los Cobanos! We are now coming to the end of the reef fishing season as the water begins to turn a bit murky and we are seeing the last of the pilot whales migrating. It's been an abundant month for all our reef fisherman who have been catching giant snapper, grouper, rooster, and mackerel to name a few. Eddie Umana recorded the catch of the month reeling in a 45 lb giant snapper on a 15 pd line with an X-Rap. Congratulations Eddie!

I am also very pleased to announce that it was a terrific month for Dorado (Mahi-Mahi) as our customers enjoyed catching large transient swimmers in the 35-45pd range and as close as 15 miles from shore. Our most successful trip was recorded on a team building activity customized for Microsoft as a sales incentive program! The group had 2 boats with 6 anglers each and everyone landed on avg. 5 Mahi-Mahis. What a day, bird activity was terrific and Dorados were aggresive. Kudos to Microsoft!

As we leave February '08 behind, we clearly observe a decrease in Dorados and we will have to wait for Mid-May (rainy season) to start seeing smaller Dorados swimming in large schools, but with every negative comes a postive..and here's the exciting news: I went fishing yesterday and we counted 27 Velas (Sailfish) anywhere from 15 miles - 50 Miles ..we raised 11 and landed 8. There were Sailfish everywhere and it makes march '08 a terrific month to book your trip.

Tight Lines,
